Winrock/USAID Partners with FCAHPT on Sustainable Agriculture

Winrock International, a group dedicated to sustainable agriculture and rural development, in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), recently held a one-day interactive forum with the College Of Animal Health and Production Health Technology (FCAHPT).

According to the organization's Country Director, Mike Bassey, the initiative provides free technical assistance to farmers, agric businesses, and education providers in developing countries to foster sustainable sectoral advancement.

"The forum formed part of the wrap-up events for the five-year Farmer-to-Farmer program which commenced in October 2018. As one of the beneficiary institutions, FCAHPT and the substantial feedback they have provided over the years played a crucial role in framing the interactive session that included both internal and external communities from the institution" he said. Additionally, Bassey revealed that countries such as Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Mali, and Senegal have garnered benefits from this program.

Dr. Kenneth Anueyiagu, head of the Department of Public Health and Epidemiology, identified the event’s aim was to assess the program's impact on the institution's faculty and students. These areas included organizational structure, pedagogical practices, strategic planning, and gender equity integration.

Dr. Jabil Yerima, deputy provost of FCAHPT, attested to the transformative influence of the initiative on the college's productivity and service delivery, fostering student-teacher interactions  and enabling paradigm shifts in teaching methods.

Dr. Samu Banyigi, Director of Development and Linkages, echoed Dr. Yerima's sentiments, stating that the program had resulted in improved community service delivery and had notably contributed towards Nigeria's agricultural development.
